Meet Penney Carruth
Penney will laughingly tell you, she is “not the new kid selling real estate.” She has been at it for over four decades and yes… she is just as enthusiastic about real estate today as she was when she first started. “Real estate is never boring. There’s always a new client, a new property, a changing market or new way to do something.”
Penney’s commitment to Buyers and Sellers is smart, dedicated, and authentic. She listens carefully to understand a client’s needs, interests, timing and motivation. She is flexible in the buying and selling process as she understands, with education, comes expectations and parameters. If you have previously worked with Penney, she values your loyalty. If your introduction is through the internet, over a cup of coffee, a community event or a referral from a mutual connection, her intention to serve your needs will be steadfast.
Her success is attributed to strong relationships and market knowledge. She knows her territory… from Aspen to Aspen Glen. She has closed ales of homes, land and condominiums in all price ranges throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. Over $600 million worth to be exact!
Penney is deeply involved in our community. Over the years she has served on the Board of Aspen Valley Ski/Snowboard Club, Aspen Board of Realtors, Wells Fargo Community Board and Aspen Public Radio. She was honored as Realtor of the Year and inducted to the AVSC Hall of Fame.
When it’s not real estate, she is passionate about her family. All five kids are busy with careers, family and friends. From skiing to mountain climbing, running to mountain biking, surf to golf… they are an active crew. While Penney hikes and skis, yoga keeps her balanced, focused, and fit!
Meet Penney’s Family
Proud Co-Founder of the Women of ASSIR
My colleague Sara Kurz and I also founded an all women’s group within our brokerage firm, named the Women of ASSIR. We started it in the Spring of 2020, during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown in an effort to foster connection and continued support among the women in our company during an uncertain time.
Today, we meet once a month virtually or in-person where we share our observations of the real estate market conditions and provide feedback and strategies to help one another navigate through the daily ins and outs of our business. We bring in various presenters and guests, and will also do exclusive virtual tours at our listings and share new listings and buyer needs. Starting in 2023, Sara and Penney will also host casual drop-in lunches for women to join and discuss current client or contract issues, providing mentorship and even more support.
We also wanted to get involved in the community as a group. In the Spring of 2022, the Women of ASSIR hosted a fundraiser at the Old Thompson Barn in River Valley Ranch. The fundraiser benefited 3 local organizations, Aspen Valley Land Trust, the Aspen Hope Center and Advocate Safe House Project (see photos above). Starting in 2023, the Women of ASSIR will be focusing their community outreach with Habitat for Humanity and the local affordable housing crisis.
Sara and my work with Habitat for Humanity Roaring Fork began in January 2023 through our involvement with the Women of ASSIR. Habitat for Humanity Roaring Fork’s visionary President Gail Schwartz (former Colorado State Senator) and Major Gifts Officer Alex Yajko contacted us to brainstorm ways to generate more awareness in the broker community about the housing crisis in our area and what their new solutions are. Gail developed the idea behind the Sell a Home, Help Build a Home giving campaign and we quickly jumped on board. Local brokers would pledge to donate at least 1% of the net sales commission to Habitat for Humanity Roaring Fork. Sara helped design the campaign logo (above) and we worked with their marketing team to flesh out how the campaign would work and wrote up all of the FAQs and documentation for the program. From there, we all set out on presentations at local brokerage firms to rally for the cause. The campaign launched successfully on September 4th with 37 other broker participants, called Ground Breakers. Habitat for Humanity Roaring Fork will continue to accept new pledges from brokers and we hope the campaign will live on for years to come. The non-profit will track the campaign’s progress over time and will share the group’s collective contributions. As of October 2024, over $50,000 has been raised so far!
Real estate sales prices have soared since the COVID-19 pandemic, widening the gap between affordable and attainable housing. Low-income housing opportunities in the Roaring Fork Valley where lagging before the pandemic – housing is now at a crisis level. It couldn’t be more fitting for real estate brokers to contribute to the construction of workforce housing.
Sellers can donate too! To learn more about how 100% of your donation can go towards the cost to build a new home, click the red link below.
